"This course gave me the courage to try, and now our family business is thriving.” – Joyce Apiyo, Kisumu County
“When I joined the course, we were facing hard times. My husband, a trained agricultural biochemist, was doing casual construction jobs, and I was helping at my father-in-law’s small shop. I hoped the entrepreneurship lessons would help me create an income — and they did. Early on, I saw that the school needed charcoal and offered to supply it. Then, I started bringing in fish. Soon after, my sister-in-law Phiona (also a coursemate) and I began preparing food items like doughnuts, chapati, samosas, and bhajias. We added these to the shop, and people loved them — sales increased so much that we’re now planning to expand the shop.
Phiona and I are especially grateful for the lessons on entrepreneurship, friendship, and family life. I’ve joined a women’s savings group (chama) to help us save and invest in the expansion. What’s more, the course taught us how to work together as a family. Hearing 'you can do it' week after week gave me the courage to act on ideas I’d never have tried before. Now, we wake up early, plan our day, and build our future with purpose. It changed our lives.”
